Introduction To Contexts Of Learning

This purpose of this assignment is to explore four contexts of learning and how each context encourages and supports children’s learning and development. The four contexts I have chosen to research are; Montessori education, Steiner-Waldorf education, the Foundation Phase and Learning outside of the classroom. I will be writing about each context of learning through research, my own experiences and reflection. These four contexts of learning have been, in my opinion, the most interesting. I believe these four contexts are the most beneficial to children, each allowing children to develop their independent learning.

I have chosen to research Montessori education because at first it was one I hadn’t heard of. After learning about it and researching its one which is child-centred and has a strong philosophy on children’s independent learning, this captured my interest. Steiner-Waldorf education was another context that I hadn’t heard of before coming to university, it is one that sees art and creativity as integral to learning. The Foundation Phase was one that I had knowledge of already after working in a classroom as a teaching assistant last year. This was one context of learning I could give my opinion as it is one which is still controversial. Lastly, I chose to do learning outside the classroom environment because it is one I strongly agree with and I think should be used more effectively in schools. It helps children to learn when they do not realise they are through their senses. It also helps develop them socially, intellectually, creatively and physically.
